Orlando, Florida, June 22, 2021 — Bristol Tennessee Essential Services received an American Public Power Association E.F. Scattergood System Achievement Award during APPA’s National Conference in Orlando, Florida. The award honors APPA member systems that have enhanced the prestige of public power utilities through sustained achievement and customer service.
BTES is involved in and committed to economic development to make a difference in its community. BTES works with community partners to assist businesses with expansion and relocations to the Bristol area. In 2019, BTES worked with more than 165 existing industries and businesses to discuss electrical and fiber optic needs, and expansion possibilities. The utility worked to assist three businesses with expansions resulting in more than 90 new jobs and capital investments totaling more than $40 million.
BTES enhances the profile of public power through its involvement in the community. Its leaders have presented to audiences across the country and have had visitors from other countries come to Bristol to learn about public power and BTES' practices. The utility also strives to educate the public on its mission to provide services that exceed expectations while focusing on its key success factors of safety, reliability, and financial health to work toward its vision of success in the community.
