Electrical Inspections

<empty>State of Tennessee electrical inspections are available for purchase at our office at 2470 Volunteer Parkway Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. When you come to purchase the permit, you will need to have the address of the location that needs to be inspected and the electrician’s name, phone number and license number if you are not completing the work yourself. If this is a new service, an application for service will need to be filled out prior to the issuing of an inspection.

The State of Tennessee electrical inspector is available to answer questions or set up appointments for inspections Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. by calling 423-383-6444.

The State of Tennessee requires that an electrical inspection be bought for the following reasons:

Upgrades to an existing electrical service
Relocation of a current meter base
Heat pump installation
Addition to an existing building
New home construction
Mobile home hook-up

Following are the inspection prices based on the amp size of the service:

0-30 Amps $27.00
31-60 Amps $27.00
61-200 Amps $27.00
201-400 Amps $40.00
401-600 Amps $50.00
601- 1000 Amps $90.00

Anything over 1000 would be determined by the State Electrical Inspector.

Rough-In inspection $27.00

HVAC $27.00

Re-Inspect $27.00

In the case of an installation of a new meter base, a BTES engineer would need to look at the service to determine the location. BTES will provide the meter base, which must be used in order to pass the inspection. It is always best to talk with a BTES engineer before starting work.

For customers who are setting a mobile home service and using a mobile home pole, they will need to follow the specifications set by the State Electrical Inspector.
