Celebrating 25 Years as a Tree Line USA Recipient
Wednesday May 7, 2025There’s something truly special about watching a child press their hands into the soil around a brand-new tree – a small act that symbolizes hope for the future. Every year at our Arbor Day Celebration, we’re lucky to witness these moments as students join us in planting a tree on their school’s campus, marking the occasion with pride.
This year, on May 2, we took the celebration to Avoca Elementary School, continuing this long-standing tradition. It’s a meaningful way for us to connect with our community – by literally growing something together that will benefit generations to come. This Arbor Day was especially meaningful for BTES, as we were honored to be recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a 2025 Tree Line USA utility for the 25th year.
The Tree Line USA program honors utilities that demonstrate a commitment to maintaining healthy urban forests while also delivering safe, reliable power. It's a balance we’re proud to uphold – one that prioritizes both the integrity of our electric system and the natural beauty of the communities we serve.
“BTES demonstrates that safe and reliable electricity doesn’t need to come at the expense of tree canopies,” said Michelle Saulnier, Vice President of Programs at the Arbor Day Foundation. “They are setting a positive example for their community, and we’re proud to have them as part of our national network of forward-thinking service providers.”
BTES continues to meet the Arbor Day Foundation’s five core standards for Tree Line USA recognition, including:
- Adhering to best practices for tree care
- Providing annual training for our crews
- Offering public tree education and planting programs
- Supporting energy conservation through strategic planting
- Participating in an annual Arbor Day event
Trees are more than just beautiful. They clean our air, cool our neighborhoods, and lower energy costs by shading homes and businesses. By planting the right trees in the right places (away from power lines and other BTES facilities), we help strengthen our community in meaningful, lasting ways.
Whether it’s through education, conservation, or connection, our Arbor Day Celebration is a reminder that small efforts can grow into something big. Here’s to another year of planting, learning, and growing together.
