Cracking Into Creativity: BTES Partners with Local Schools for Egg Drop Challenges
Wednesday May 21, 2025Last week, BTES joined Avoca Elementary and Fairmount Elementary for some of the most egg-citing events of the season: the Egg Drop Challenges! The days were filled with laughter, learning, and plenty of suspense as students cheered on their carefully crafted creations, hoping their eggs would stay intact as they took the plunge.
There was something truly special about watching young minds put science and creativity into action. Our BTES team was just as eager as the students as we raised the bucket truck higher and higher – from 15 feet to 30 feet, and finally, a daring 45 feet. The real thrill? Seeing whether the students’ designs could survive the drop without cracking under pressure.
This challenge wasn’t just about fun (though there was plenty of that!) – it was about applying real-world science and math. Students calculated speed, force, and impact, using their knowledge to build containers that protected their raw eggs during each drop. It was hands-on STEM learning at its best.
And for those whose eggs survived all three drops? Bragging rights—and the sweet taste of success!
BTES Technical Operations Technician Justin Kinkead, who operated the bucket truck during the event at Fairmount Elementary, said it best: “Seeing how excited the students are and how much thought they put into their designs is amazing. It’s fun for them, but it also shows how STEM can be used in real, creative ways.”
BTES is proud to support educational experiences that spark curiosity and inspire future innovators. Events like the Egg Drop Challenge are more than just fun – they’re opportunities to show students how science, technology, engineering, and math come to life in the real world.
By encouraging hands-on learning, critical thinking, and a healthy dose of creativity, we’re helping to build the skills students will need to thrive in tomorrow’s workforce. At BTES, we believe that investing in STEM education today helps build a stronger, smarter, and more connected community for the future.
