Electrical Engineering Internship

PURPOSE:
Provide a mutually beneficial opportunity in the fields of Electric and Computer Engineering for the
candidate and BTES. Promote the opportunities that are available in the utility and communications
industry specifically as it relates to BTES, our customers and community.

EDUCATION:
Applicant must be currently enrolled in an Electrical and/or Computer Engineering program. Current or
future coursework in power systems, control systems, telecommunications and programming is preferred but not required.

EXPERIENCE:
AutoCAD; Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and other related applications; ESRI GIS
Systems; Java / C++; Computer networking and PC troubleshooting including routers, hubs, switches, DHCP, DNS and protocols is a plus; Telecommunication/phone systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Some of the time is spent inside with typical office conditions and the other is spent in the field performing design analysis, surveying, supervising and inspecting projects as needed. Field work may also include interacting with customers, contractors and fellow employees on system projects and customer installations. Should be able to work all day in hot or cold weather conditions if needed and subject to emergency calls at times.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to: Supervisor of Electric Engineering – To collaborate with in determining projects, priorities and philosophy of projects. Keeps informed of progress made and problems encountered. Scheduling and completion of projects to be on a continuing basis.

WORK OPPORTUNITIES MAY INCLUDE:
Perform transformer record review and updates. Learn and develop engineering drawings in AutoCAD and/or GIS mapping systems. Implement equipment testing procedures for electric meters and communications equipment. Learn and perform transformer loading calculations. Learn, design and complete engineering projects for security lights, small residential and temporary services, etc. Learn and generate utility pole framing and replacement jobs. Develop processes, drawings and resources to improve quality and increase productivity of the engineering department and the customer's experience. Design and build SCADA operator screens. Prepare contract documents for commercial accounts. Prepare written easements for customer projects. Learn, design and complete system engineering projects for distribution line construction, substation projects, etc. Develop specialized programs to improve electric and fiber optic systems operation. Prepare cost estimates for assigned projects.
